JBS TOP 40 PROSPECT COUNTDOWN
When you go to newsstands and pick up preseason magazines most of them rank the top 25 or top 40 teams but we have decided to countdown our top 40 small school prospects with a brief look at each player. Every day we will release a new player in our countdown. Enjoy!
31. OT Curt Porter, Jacksonville State
HT: 6066
WT: 316
40: 5.42-5.45
CAREER SNAPSHOT: 2nd team All-OVC at LT in '09. Started at LT in '08. Played LT in 9 gms in '07. Redshirted in '06.
STRENGTHS: Has great size and wingspan. Ideal body type for the NFL. Moves well. Adequate upper body strength and good punch. Jolts defenders. Adequate kick slide. Decent use of hands. Has the strength to move defenders.
WEAKNESSES: Light in the butt. Raw technique. Waist bender. Misses blocks sometimes. Doesn’t finish. Developmental type. Needs improvement in every facet. Inconsistent especially against top level competition when it comes to sustaining and handling speed rushers.
ANALYSIS: Porter’s length and size alone him a solid prospect but the two-year starter lacks the polish and consistency to make him a top 150 selection, which is where he could end up with some improvement this year.
JBS PROJECTION: Priority Free Agent.
NFL PROJECTION: Borderline Draftable.
