SOCON

The SoCon has had its fair share of prospects the last few years with Furman’s Jerome Felton, App State’s Dexter Jackson, Corey Lynch, and Armanti Edwards, Citadel’s Andre’ Roberts, and even Elon’s Terrell Hudgins.  This year is another solid year with several solid prospects.

Appalachian State

mark_legreeAs usual the Mountaineers have the most NFL talent led by FS #13 MARK LEGREE (5116, 200) whose ball skills, range, production, and instincts make him one of the best in the FCS.  LeGree is a two-time All-American and has shown he can flat out play.  NFL teams have him as a priority free agent but we believe he will be a mid round selection.

OLB #9 DJ SMITH (5102, 232) has all of the athletic abilty you look for but he has a low wonderlic score and is undersized at 5’10.  His play has also been more inconsistent than his numbers on the field indicate as a two-time All-American and two-time All-SoCon selection.  Smith already has racked up 380 career stops but we have him as a priority free agent despite some ranking him as a 5th-6th rounder.

There are two others getting looks but they aren’t as serious a prospect as some might make them out to be as WR #6 COCO HILLARY (5081, 181) has good speed but has had trouble catching the football, ran into some off field issues, and he is undersized.  RB #20 DEVON MOORE (5082, 190) is a better player than their all-time leading rusher Kevin Richardson who got looks but we feel more is another product of the zone blocking scheme and is just too small not only being that he is short but light at just 190.   both are potential free agent or tryout types but we don’t believe they are serious prospects at his point.

Chattanooga

Chattanooga is improving as a team overall and it is showing by their NFL prospect count with no real serious prospects the last few years but they have two this year in CB #21 BUSTER SKRINE (5093, 182) who despite his size is a fast, productive player with good cover skills worth a look as a strong priority free agent type.  If he were 5’11 195 he would be on most draft boards in our opinion.

Next is another undersized kid who has good feet and already proved to be a very solid player in LT #70 CHRIS HARR (6041, 278).   Harr won’t make it because he lacks the bulk but he is a good athlete who will get strong looks and get a chance if he can bulk up to the 290 range.

Elon

There are not really any highly rated prospects at Elon this year but there are two fringe free agents worth tracking in DE #91 BRANDON WARD (6050, 218) and QB #16 SCOTT RIDDLE (5114 204).  We believe Ward’s athletic ability and quickness will put him on the radar but he must move to outside linebacker lacking the bulk to play end, and will still need to bulk up for linebacker.  Riddle lacks the accuracy and size to make it but his productive and arm strength will have teams peaking at him.

The Citadel

It is rare to find a 6’1 corner with 4.4 speed but Citadel has it in CB #13 CORTEZ ALLEN (6012, 192) whose size, length, speed, and skills have scouts looking.  If he can improve his consistency and lock down his side of the field he could potentially earn a combine invite and go in the late rounds.  He is a bit stiff though so that will likely put a 5th-6th round ceiling on him.

Wofford

Wofford rarely has a prospect but this year they have one legit player who can make it and another adequate free agent type.  They are led by LG #78 PAT ILLIG (6042, 310) whose body type, run blocking skills, and road grading style of play have scouts looking hard.  We have him as a high priority free agent.

S #42 TOMMY IRVIN (6001, 204) has good size and was fairly productive last year making him a free agent possibility worth tracking.
