NESCAC Football All-Conference Teams Announced
Middlebury’s McKillop, Amherst’s Taylor Named Players of the Year
HADLEY, Mass. – Middlebury junior QB Donald McKillop (Poway, Calif.) and Amherst senior LB Mike Taylor (Evanston, Ill.) have been selected by the conference coaches as the 2009 NESCAC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively. McKillop is the first Panther player to receive top offensive honors since running back Bryan Sanchez in 2000, while Taylor becomes the first member of the Lord Jeffs to garner defensive recognition since lineman Pat McGee in 2001.
In only his third year with the Panthers, McKillop re-wrote the career record books for passing at Middlebury, as he not only led the NESCAC in passing but also established new single-season school and league marks as well. McKillop completed just under 65-percent of his attempts this fall with an average of 359.1 yards per game and an efficiency rating of 136.77. The 2007 Rookie of the Year finished the season with 262 completions on 405 attempts, 2,873 passing yards, 22 touchdown passes, and 2,967 yards of total offense, all conference records. He also added two rushing touchdowns to his totals. In addition to being named Offensive Player of the Year, McKillop was also chosen as a member of the All-NESCAC First Team Offense a year after he earned Second Team honors.
A big part of the conference’s top defense, Taylor and the Lord Jeffs allowed a league-low 10.4 points per game, 50.9 rushing yards per game, and surrendered only three rushing touchdowns. Taylor was second among his counterparts in the NESCAC in tackles with a career-best 89 (47 solo), averaging 11.1 per outing. He also contributed 11.0 tackles for a combined loss of 40 yards, four sacks for a total of 25 yards, five pass break-ups, three forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery. Taylor earned All-NESCAC First Team Defense for the first time during his tenure at Amherst as well.
In the backfield on the All-Conference First Team Offense were Trinity senior Oliver Starnes and Williams junior Ryan Lupo at running back along with Tufts senior Noah Hatfield-Biondo at fullback. Starnes, who was chosen as a member of the First Team for the second year in a row, was second in the NESCAC in rushing, averaging 98.1 yards per game and 4.0 yards per carry, and also scored eight touchdowns on the ground. The primary man in the backfield for the Ephs, Lupo paced the conference’s top rushing offense with a league-best 107.1 yards per game for a total of 857 yards. He recorded more touchdowns than any other player this season by scoring nine of Williams’ 17 rushing touchdowns. Hatfield-Biondo appeared in seven games for the Jumbos as a multi-purpose back, averaging 1.3 yards on the ground and 10.1 receiving yards. He caught two touchdown passes and ran in for a third score.
Representatives from five different teams made up the five offensive line spots on the First Team. Returning from last year’s First Team Offense was junior Matt Santora of Trinity, as the Bantams boasted the best red zone offense in the conference, converting on 27-of-31 attempts (.871). Tufts senior Adam Wueger moved up from the 2008 Second Team to this year’s First Team. Amherst senior Wyatt Moss received All-NESCAC honors for the first time in his career as part of a front line that allowed a league-low eight sacks. Senior Matt Fait of Colby and Kevin Rose of Williams joined Moss as being first-time honorees. The Ephs tied with Middlebury for the highest-scoring offense in the conference, averaging 29.9 points per game, and were also tops in rushing, gaining just over 160 yards per game on the ground. The Mules were not far behind in rushing, ranking third in the NESCAC with a 113.2 yard average.
The receiving corps on the First Team was made up of seniors Nick Caro of Williams and James Millard of Middlebury along with Bowdoin sophomore Patrick Noone. Limited to just six games this season, Caro averaged 15.0 yards per catch and 67.7 yards per game, scoring five touchdowns. Millard was second only to Noone among conference players in both receptions (64) and yards (748), as he had 8.0 receptions per game and 93.5 receiving yards per game. He also claimed All-NESCAC Specialist honors for the third consecutive year (2007 Second Team, 2008 First Team), recording 328 yards on kick returns and 111 yards on punt returns. Noone had a breakout sophomore campaign for the Polar Bears, as he set or tied five different program records and broke the single-season conference record for receptions with 76 catches. Noone racked up 997 receiving yards, second all-time in the NESCAC, with a program-best seven touchdowns and a league-high 124.6 yards per outing. Bates senior tight end Sean Wirth rounded out the All-NESCAC First Team Offense. Wirth posted a career-high average of 49.1 yards per game along with 9.8 yards per reception. An excellent blocker for the Bobcats, Wirth added in his sixth career touchdown reception this season.
On the All-NESCAC First Team Defense, seniors Eric Pender and Edwin Urey of Amherst were back for a second tour in as many years. The duo helped the Lord Jeffs post the league’s best rushing defense, allowing only 50.9 yards on the ground per game and 1.5 yards per attempt. In addition, the Amherst defense had 38 sacks (1st NESCAC) and permitted only 13 of 25 incursions into the red zone to be successful (2nd). Pender had 38 tackles (21 solo) with 6.5 tackles for a loss of 33 yards, 5.0 sacks, three pass break-ups, and one fumble recovery. Urey led his squad and was second in the conference with 13 tackles for a combined loss of 79 yards and 8.0 sacks. He made 33 total stops this season (21 solo). A Second Team member in 2008, Wesleyan senior Peter Sugarbaker joined the First Team Defense in 2009. Sugarbaker recorded 38 tackles (22 solo) with 8.0 TFL of 40 yards, five sacks for 36 yards, three pass break-ups, and a forced fumble. Bowdoin senior Laurence Duggan finished the season as the NESCAC leader in sacks with nine for 52 yards. He also made 50 stops (35 solo), 10.5 tackles for a loss of 57 yards, two quarterback hurries, a break-up, and a fumble recovery. Sophomore Colin Curzi of Williams was the final lineman on the First Team. Curzi recorded 22 tackles (14 solo) with 5.0 TFL of 21 yards, two sacks, and two pass break-ups. Curzi and the rest of the Ephs were tops in third down defense, as opponents only converted 26.2-percent of their opportunities (33-for-126).
Along with Amherst’s Taylor at linebacker were Hamilton senior John Lawrence, Williams junior Dylan Schultz, and Trinity sophomore Walter Fallas, all of whom led their respective squads in tackling. Lawrence, who earned Second Team honors a year ago, had a career-best 63 tackles this season (38 solo) with 5.5 tackles for a loss of 26 yards, 2.0 sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and four pass break-ups in only six games. Schultz made 61 stops (37 solo) which included 9.5 tackles for a loss of 29 yards, 3.0 sacks, and a pass break-up. Fallas tied with Lawrence for third among conference players in tackles per game (10.5) with an impressive 84 tackles (44 solo). Of his 84 stops, 7.0 were for a loss of 23 yards. He also recorded a sack, an interception, two pass break-ups, a quarterback hurry, and a fumble recovery.
Tufts senior defensive back Tom Tassinari earned First Team Defense for the third time in his career, the only player on this year’s squad to do so. Tassinari recorded a personal-best 57 tackles (37 solo) with four pass break-ups and a quarterback hurry. Joining Tassinari from the 2008 First Team was Bates’ Kyle McAllister. The senior defensive back made 36 tackles (24 solo) to go along with an interception, a fumble recovery, and three pass break-ups. Rounding out the First Team Defense were seniors Fred Argir of Amherst and Matt Zanedis of Williams. Argir intercepted a conference-best six passes in 2009, as the Jeffs led the league in turnovers with a plus-9 margin. Argir also had eight pass break-ups and 57 tackles (32 solo). Zanedis returned a fumble and an interception for a touchdown this fall. Over eight games, Zanedis had two interceptions, six pass break-ups, a blocked kick, and 30 tackles (23 solo).
Accompanying Millard of Middlebury on the First Team Specialists were Williams senior Will Cronin and Trinity sophomore Tim Costello. Cronin led the conference in yards per punt with a 39.3 average, booting a long of 75 yards and putting 10 inside the opponents’ 20. Costello was 5-for-5 on extra point attempts and 10-for-11 in field goals this season. Costello nailed a career-long 42-yard field goal in double-overtime of the season finale against Wesleyan to give Trinity a 26-23 win.
Rookie of the Year went to Williams freshman linebacker Chris Cameron (Walpole, Mass.). Cameron was second among his teammates in tackles this year with 46 stops, 33 of which were solo. He also made 8.0 tackles for a loss of 48 yards, 5.5 sacks for 42 yards, two pass break-ups, and a fumble recovery.
Amherst head coach E.J. Mills was the unanimous choice for NESCAC Coach of the Year. In his 13th season at the helm of the Lord Jeffs, Mills guided his team to their third 8-0 finish in conference play and first undefeated season since 1984. Amherst won the 2009 NESCAC Football Championship, its first outright title and second overall after sharing the award with Colby and Middlebury in 2000. It is the first time that Mills has received the conference’s coaching honor.

SCAC Announces 2009 All-Conference Football Team
SUWANEE, Ga. - DePauw University and Millsaps College each went 5-1 in league play to share the 2009 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) football crown. For that success on the gridiron, both were awarded with two major awards each with today's announcement of the 2009 All-SCAC Football team.
In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the conference, Alex Koors of DePauw was selected as the league's Offensive Player-of-the-Year while Will Hawkins of Millsaps was voted the league's Defensive Player-of-the-Year.
Hawkins' teammate, Michael Galatas, was selected as Special Teams Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year while DePauw's Robby Long was voted the league's Coach-of-the-Year.
In the same balloting, Kyle Trella of Trinity University was named the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year.
Alex Koors, a 6-2, 168-pound junior receiver from Indianapolis, Ind., set the DePauw single season receiving yards mark this season with 1,266 yards - the third highest total in SCAC history. His 73 receptions this year places him in a tie for the ninth-most in a SCAC single season and his 13 receiving touchdowns are tied for the fourth-most. Currently ranked third in the nation in receiving yards, Koors had two 200+ yard receiving games this season (212 yards vs. Millsaps and 209 yards vs. Anderson). He is the first conference receiver to post two 200+ yard receiving games in a single-season since David Crowley of Centre in 2004. For his career and with a year still remaining in Greencastle, Koors is already ranked in the league's all-time top 10 for career receptions (169 - 10th), receiving yards (2,595 - fifth) and receiving touchdowns (26 - fifth).
Koors received six votes in the Offensive POTY voting with Chris Baer of Trinity University and Shane Bowser of Millsaps College receiving one vote each.
Will Hawkins, a 6-2, 230-pound junior linebacker from Nettleton, Miss., tied for the SCAC lead with 102 tackles, becoming the first Millsaps player in six years with 100 tackles in a season. He had double digit tackles in five of the team's last six games, including a career-high 17 against Birmingham-Southern. Hawkins also finished tied for eighth in the conference with 7.5 tackles-for-loss and added three interceptions and two recovered fumbles. The league's reigning Offensive Player-of-the-Year in baseball, Hawkins is just the second SCAC student-athlete to earn Player-of-the-Year honors in two separate sports - excluding cross country and track and field - following Liz Bondi of DePauw who was SCAC POTY in both women's basketball (twice) and tennis (three times).
Hawkins received four votes in the Defensive POTY balloting to nose out Brian Sneed of Centre College, who received three votes. Thomas Wrona of DePauw received the remaining first-place vote.
Michael Galatas, a 5-10, 175-pound receiver/kick returner from Lacombe, La., is the first SCAC student-athlete to earn back-to-back Special Teams Player-of-the-Year honors since DePauw's Jamarcus Shephard in 2003 and 2004. Galatas finished second in the SCAC in all-purpose yards (142.1 yards per game), which included a Millsaps single-season record 687 kick return yards and two touchdowns. He also broke the school's career record with three kick return for touchdowns. Galatas averaged 25.4 yards per kick return, which was good for second in the SCAC (35th nationally). As a receiver, Galatas was selected First Team All-SCAC after catching 32 passes for 632 yards and nine touchdowns.
Galatas garnered six votes in the Special Teams Player-of-the-Year voting. Garrett Biel of Trinity received the remaining two votes. This is the fourth consecutive year that a Millsaps player has been selected the league's Special Teams POTY. Former Majors Chris Jackson (2006) and John Milazzo (2007) earned the award prior to Galatas' two selections.
Kyle Trella, a 6-0, 165-pound first-year punter from Chandler, Ariz., had three punts over 60 yards this season, as well as several more punts over 50 yards. He broke a 46-year-old school record with his 48.8 yards per punt average against Sewanee, and now holds four of the top 10 averages in Trinity single-game history (min. five punts). Trella was a huge weapon for the Tigers as he dropped over 33% of his punts inside the 20-yard line (16). As of the end of the regular season, Trella led all of Division III in punting average at 44.0 yards per punt.
Trella received three votes in the NOTY balloting, followed closely by Shawn Morris of Birmingham-Southern College and Greg Harrell of Austin College, who received two votes each. Tevin Goggins of Millsaps received the remaining first-place vote.
After guiding DePauw to a share of its third SCAC football title and the program's first-ever NCAA playoff appearance, Robby Long was selected by his peers as SCAC Coach-of-the-Year. Long, who turned 30 on Sunday, took over as interim head football coach on August 7. He had spent the previous five seasons as an assistant coach at DePauw, including the last three as the Tigers' assistant head coach and defensive coordinator. Long led the Tigers to their first-ever appearance in the NCAA Division III playoffs. DePauw battled #10 Thomas More in Kentucky Saturday, but came up on the short end of a 49-39 score and ended the 2009 season with a 7-3 record. Long had the "interim" tag removed from his title on Tuesday and was officially named head coach.
Long captured five votes in the COTY balloting. Mike DuBose of Millsaps, Andy Frye of Centre and Steve Mohr of Trinity received one vote each.

ALL-NCAC FOOTBALL SQUADS ANNOUNCED; HUDSON, VALLERY TAKE TOP HONORS
CLEVELAND – Wabash senior Matt Hudson (Salem, IN/Salem) and Wittenberg junior Eddie Vallery (South Solon,
OH/Madison Plains) have been honored for outstanding seasons by being named North Coast Athletic Conference Players of the Year. Hudson receives the Mike Gregory Award as the NCAC’s Offensive Player of the Year. The award is presented by Richard Gregory of Columbus, in honor of his father, a multi-sport standout at Denison in the 1920s. Vallery, meanwhile, is the Defensive Player of the Year and receives the Hank Critchfield Award, commemorating the 1927 Wooster graduate.
Hudson, a senior quarterback, led the Little Giants to their third consecutive trip to the NCAA Division III tournament and a second-place finish in the conference. He earns the Gregory Award for the second straight season, and is the sixth player to earn the honor in back-to-back years. He led the North Coast in passing (279.6 yards per game), total offense (292.0 yards per game), and pass efficiency (169.5). Hudson finishes his career with 8,420 yards in 34 games and 79 touchdown passes. He ranks second in Wabash history and third in NCAC history in career passing yards. He is second in both school and conference history in career TD passes.
Vallery, a junior defensive lineman, dominated NCAC champion Tiger opponents with 57 tackles (33 solo), 20 tackles for losses of 121 yards, and 14.5 sacks for another 111 yards lost. He also broke up five passes, forced two fumbles and blocked a pair of kicks. Vallery helped fuel a defensive unit that allowed only nine touchdowns through the first round of the NCAA playoffs, including just three on the ground. The Wittenberg defense led the league in total defense (164.2 yards allowed per game), passing defense (100.7 yards allowed per game), rushing defense (63.5 yards allowed per game) and scoring defense (6.1 points allowed per game). The Tigers spent most of the season atop the NCAA defensive categories as well.
Ohio Wesleyan freshman defensive end James Huddleston (Pontiac, MI/St. Marys Prep) is the North Coast’s
Newcomer of the Year. He contributed 48 stops, three sacks and nine tackles for loss for the Battling Bishops.
Wittenberg's Joe Fincham has been named Coach of the Year for the sixth time after guiding his team to a perfect 10-0 regular season record, their ninth North Coast title and an NCAA Division III tournament bid for the first time since 2006. He has a 125-29 record in 14 seasons at the helm.
CLEVELAND -- The following performers have earned All-North Coast Athletic Conference honors for the 2009 season through balloting by the NCAC football coaches.

Empire 8 Announces Football All-Conference Team; Jared Manzer and Andy Episcopo Named Players of the Year
ROCHESTER, NY – The Empire 8 announced its 2009 Football All-Conference team with senior wide receiver Jared Manzer being unanimously selected as Offensive Player of the Year and St. John Fisher College senior linebacker Andy Episcopo chosen as Defensive Player of the Year.
Manzer earned first-team all-conference honors as a wide receiver, all-purpose player, and defensive back and was named to the second team as a kick return specialist. He set single-season school records for touchdown receptions (15 so far) and holds the school career marks for receiving yards, touchdown catches, and total receptions.
Manzer enters NCAA play averaging seven catches per game and totaling 1,007 receiving yards in nine games. He averages 211.3 yards per game all-purpose, 21.3 yards per kick return, and 10.4 yards per punt return. Manzer leads the Saxons with seven pass break-ups and five interceptions, two of which were returned for touchdowns, including a school-record 98-yarder.
Episcopo, a second-team all-conference choice last season, enters the ECAC Northwest Bowl against Cortland averaging 9.7 tackles per game with 10 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He has forced three fumbles, recovered a fumble, and recorded an interception.
Freshman quarterback Andrew Benkwitt of Utica College was named Empire 8 Rookie of the Year. He broke nearly every single-season school record, including completions, yards, attempts, touchdowns, completion percentage, and passing yards per game. Benkwitt completed 60.8 percent of his passes for 2,375 yards and 19 touchdowns.
Dave Murray was the unanimous selection as Empire 8 Coach of the Year as he led Alfred University to a share of its first conference title and only its second trip to the NCAA tournament, first since 1981.
Six players from the Saxons joined Manzer as all-conference first team selections. Sophomore quarterback Tom Secky, the 2008 Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, finished the regular season with a 168.8 efficiency rating, the best single-season mark in school history. He has thrown 25 touchdown passes and completed 63.6 percent of his passes. Senior running back Vinson Hendrix ran for 100 yards or more in seven of the Saxons’ nine regular season games, averaging 5.5 yards per carry and rushing for 10 touchdowns.
Senior left tackle Dave Carletta and junior right tackle Zach Morgan were each named to the all-conference first team, anchoring an Alfred line that has produced 414.4 yards of offense per game (175.1 rushing and 239.3 passing), while allowing only 12 sacks.
Sophomore linebacker Nick Clark averages 7.8 tackles per game and leads the Saxons in tackles for loss. Senior punter Pete Marley leads the conference with a 39.1 yards per punt average and has also landed nine punts inside the opponents’ 20-yard line. Clark and Marley earned first-team honors for the first time.
Four players from Empire 8 co-champion St. John Fisher College joined Episcopo as all-conference first team selections. Junior left tackle Pete Soehner and senior right guard P.J. Colombo anchor the Cardinals’ line which has produced 419.1 yards per game (151.8 rushing and 267.3 passing).
Senior defensive lineman Joel Vickers and senior defensive back John Sheridan were named to the all-conference first team for the Cardinals. Vickers enters ECAC play averaging 5.2 tackles per game and totaling five sacks and 11 tackles for loss. Sheridan, who plays the opponents’ top receiver, has picked off four passes and broken up nine, while posting 5.5 tackles per game.
Senior Jared Burrell of Springfield College was named to the all-conference first team as a defensive back and as a return specialist. He enters ECAC play ranked second in Division III in punt returns (17.2 yards per return) and third in Division III in kick returns (32.8 yards per return). He averages four tackles per game, has intercepted two passes, and broken up five. Burrell is joined on the all-conference first team by classmate Cody Flanigan, a defensive lineman with four sacks and 12.5 tackles for loss.
Senior offensive lineman Jake Queener and senior defensive lineman Joe Goetz of Ithaca College repeated as first-team selections. Goetz finished the season with nine tackles for loss. Junior tight end Dan Higgins was named to the first team after leading the conference tight ends with 2.9 receptions per game and four touchdowns. Sophomore Andrew Rogowski was chosen as the all-conference first-team placekicker after connecting on 12 field goals and averaging 6.7 points per game.
Three players from Hartwick College were chosen as first-team honorees, including senior defensive lineman Ben Tomaino, a second-team choice in 2008. He enters ECAC play averaging 7.9 tackles per game and has registered conference-highs of 10 sacks and 15 tackles for loss. Senior running back Tosh DeMulder is averaging 102.1 yards per game, 5.8 yards per carry, and has scored 10 rushing touchdowns and two more receiving. Senior wide receiver Noah Koreman ranks ninth in Division III with 120 yards receiving per game and has caught 16 touchdown passes.
Senior linebacker Eric Kahl and senior defensive back Pete Vano of Utica College were named to the all-conference first team. Kahl averaged 10.6 tackles per game and recording 11.5 tackles for loss despite missing three games with a broken foot. Vano averaged 5.9 tackles per game and broke up four passes.
One member of each team was named that institution’s representative on the 2009 Football Sportsman of the Year Team. Empire 8 emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete’s experience in conjunction with an institution’s educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportsmen.

COE'S BOYLE NAMED IIAC FOOTBALL MVP, COE'S STAKER NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR ALL-IOWA CONFERENCE FOOTBALL TEAM RELEASED
CEDAR RAPIDS, IOWA . . . The Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (IIAC) announced today that Coe College sophomore quarterback Brad Boyle (New Sharon, Iowa/North Mahaska) has been named the 2009 IIAC Football Most Valuable Player and Coe head coach Steve Staker has been named the 2009 IIAC Football Coach of the Year.
Boyle threw for 2,478 yards and 17 touchdowns in ten games, setting new single-season school records for passing completions (198) and total offense by a quarterback (2,807). His 2009 passing yardage total ranks third all-time in school history and could possibly move up on the chart. He also threw only one interception during the regular season. Boyle opened the season with an NCAA Division III-record 305 consecutive passing attempts without an interception before being picked off by Cornell’s Cody Backhaus in the regular-season finale.
He threw for 300-plus yards three times this season, including a season-high 373 against Gustavus Adolphus, and nearly hit the mark again with 295 against Wartburg. Boyle also rushed for 329 yards on 126 carries with 14 touchdowns. He led the IIAC in total offense (280.7 ypg) while ranking second in passing (247.8 ypg) and third in scoring.
Boyle is the first Coe player since Joe Brannen in 2004 to be named Iowa Conference MVP. Fred Jackson also captured back-to-back MVP honors in 2001 and 2002. He is also the first sophomore to be named MVP since Central running back Vance Schuring captured the first of his back-to-back MVP honors in 2005.
Staker led the Kohawks to a 9-1 mark overall, a runner-up finish in the Iowa Conference with a 7-1 mark, and a berth in the 2009 NCAA Division III Football Championship. Under his guidance this year, Coe ranks among the top-three in the Conference in 20 statistical areas including leading the IIAC in scoring defense (14.3 ppg), total defense (300.2 ypg), sacks (34), and turnover margin (+1.7). The Kohawks also led the league in red zone defense, holding opponents to scores on only 60 percent (18 of 30) of red zone chances. This is the second time a Coe coach has been named Iowa Conference Coach of the Year. Erik Raeburn was named IIAC Coach of the Year in 2002.
The IIAC also announced today the 2009 All-Conference Football Team. The 54-member Team includes eight repeat All-Conference honorees, including two individuals – Central punter Kurtis Brondyke and Coe linebacker Tate Harrison – who become three-time All-Conference performers. Brondyke is a three-time First Team performer. In addition, Coe’s Tyler Takes received Second Team honors at both wide receiver and return specialist.
Iowa Conference champion Central College had an IIAC-best 14 All-Conference players, including a league-high nine First Team members, while runner-up Coe College each had 11 All-Conference players and Wartburg College and Buena Vista University each had seven. The Kohawks had five players selected to the First Team, second only to Central, while the Beavers had four. Luther received five All-Conference honors followed the University of Dubuque (4), Loras College (3), Cornell College (2), and Simpson College (1).

Five-time conference champion Wesley College won two of the four Player Of The Year awards as junior quarterback Shane McSweeny repeated as Offensive Player Of The Year and junior defensive tackle Mike Ward winning Defensive Player Of The Year honors. The Apprentice School took home the Rookie of the Year for the second straight season as defensive back Louis Norwood won the honor. Frostburg State University wide receiver and return specialist Avery Willie won the Special Teams Player Of The Year honor.
McSweeny earned his award after leading a Wesley offense that has soared to a 10-0 record heading into Saturday's NCAA South Region First Round game with N.C. Wesleyan. The Bensalem, Pa. native threw for 1,953 yards and 26 touchdowns. He leads the conference in passing yards, pass efficiency, touchdown passes and total offense, while ranking fifth in the conference in rushing. Ran for a career high 121 yards against NAIA 19th-ranked Ohio Dominican and threw for six touchdowns and 366 yards in a conference win over Frostburg State.
Ward took home Defensive Player Of The Year honors after a stellar season where he had almost a third of his 49 total tackles were for a loss. Those 15 tackles for loss included seven sacks to which he is tied for second in the conference. He is on a six-game streak of at least one sack. The Norwich, Ct. native is part of a Wesley defense that leads NCAA Division III in tackles for loss, third in scoring defense (8.22 ppg), fifth in sacks (3.56/game) and in total defense (230 yards/game).
Norwood stepped into a young defensive backfield for the Builders and recorded a stellar season. The Baker, La. native had eight pass breakups and six interceptions which tied the school record for the Apprentice School. He had 27 tackles, 21 solo, three blocked kicks and one forced fumble. Norwood had two interceptions against Fairleigh Dickinson-Florham and had three breakups against Malone University in his collegiate debut.
Willie earned the Special Teams Player Of The Year award after leading the league in kickoff return yardage (747) and second in punt returns (76). He returned a punt 43 yards for a touchdown against Geneva in the season opener. The Aberdeen, Md. native holds the single-season FSU record for return yards in a season.
Drass won his seventh ACFC Coach Of The Year honor as his third-ranked Wolverines won their eighth ACFC championship and fifth in a row. Wesley enters the NCAA Tournament with a 10-0 record and the number one seed in the South Region.

Mount’s Prosser and Rose-Hulman’s Eitel Headline All-HCAC Football Selections
GREENWOOD, IN – The College of Mount St. Joseph placed eleven players on the 2009 Heartland Collegiate
Athletic Conference All-Conference First Team, including the conference’s defensive Most Valuable Player.
Mount St. Joseph’s Erik Prosser (Cincinnati, Ohio/Oak Hills) has been named the HCAC Defensive Most Valuable Player for the first time. Lions’ head coach Rod Huber garnered Coach of the Year honors for the third time in his career.
Rose-Hulman’s Derek Eitel (Marshall, Ill./H.S.) was honored as Offensive Most Valuable Player for 2009, while his teammate Kyle Kovach (Munster, Ind./Andrean) picked up the Freshman of the Year award. Manchester College’s Chris Cecil (Indianapolis, Ind./Franklin Central) was selected as Special Teams Most Valuable Player this fall.
Prosser, a junior linebacker for the Lions, led the Mount defense that helped propel MSJ to a conference championship. The junior led the Lions with 103 tackles, and added 5.5 tackles for loss, one sack, two fumble recoveries (1st HCAC), and three forced fumbles (2nd HCAC). As a team, Mount St. Joseph ranked fourth in the conference in team defense (331.7 ypg) and led the conference in scoring defense (21.5 ppg). Eitel, a senior quarterback for Rose-Hulman, threw for 2,723 yards this season and helped his team to four consecutive seasons of six or more wins for the first time in school history. The senior set single-season school records for passing yards (2,723), efficiency (152.8), and touchdown passes (24) during the 2009 season. He also established career school records for career passing yards (7,507) and touchdowns (52) during his time in Terre Haute. Eitel crossed the 300 yard mark passing four times during the season, including a 422 yard effort against Franklin (2nd in school history).
Cecil, a senior return specialist for Manchester, returned a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown for the Spartans this season. The senior totaled 439 yards and averaged 20.0 yards per kickoff return this season, highlighted by an 89 yard return for a score against Anderson. He added a league-best 14.7 yards per punt return this fall, including an
88 yard return for a touchdown against Mount St. Joseph.
Kovach, a freshman running back for Rose-Hulman, started the last seven games of the season after Calvin Bueltel ended his season with a knee injury in week three. The freshman was instrumental in the Engineer running game, finishing the season with 736 yards and nine touchdowns. His 736 yards and nine rushing touchdowns ranked second in the HCAC in both categories.
Mount St. Joseph head coach Rod Huber has been selected as the HCAC Coach of the Year for the third time in his career. He guided the Lions to their fourth conference title and a 9-1 overall record. The Mount finished alone in first place in the HCAC with a perfect 7-0 mark. The only loss this season for MSJ was a 42-17 defeat to rival Thomas More in the final game of the regular season. The Lions open the NCAA Playoffs Saturday at Wittenberg.

Monmouth Sweeps MWC Individual Football All-Conference Awards
RIPON, WIS -- The Midwest Conference (MWC) announced the 2009 MWC Football Awards today, November 17, 2009. Monmouth College swept the individual accolades in addition to having a league-high 22 all-conference representatives. Junior quarterback Alex Tanney repeated as the Offensive Player of the Year, senior defensive lineman Anthony Goranson was tabbed the 2009 Defensive Player of the Year and the Fighting Scots’ head coach Steve Bell was named Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
En route to claiming his second Offensive Player of the Year honor, Tanney has shattered nearly every Monmouth College passing record, including career touchdowns (116) and career yards (9,797). The junior quarterback currently leads the league and the nation (Division III) with 3,495 passing yards (349.5 ypg). He enters the 2009 NCAA Playoffs with a 166.79 pass efficiency rating, completing over 70% of his passes, and needs just 204 yards to eclipse 10,000 in his career. His game-high 451 yards vs. Knox on November 7 broke his own single-game record for the second week in a row.
Additional honors for Tanney this season include three Preseason All-American nods as well as three MWC Offensive Performer of the Week selections.
Goranson, also Preseason All-American, led the league in tackles for a loss (17 solo, 4 assisted) with 1.90 yards per game. He currently ranks third in the league in sacks (7.5) and fumbles forced (3). With the 2009 NCAA Playoffs still ahead of him, Goranson is just 1.5 sacks shy of the Scots all-time record of 34 set by Greg Bennett from 1987-90.
Coach Steve Bell, in his tenth season, directed his program to back-to-back MWC titles after posting a perfect 9-0 mark in the MWC for the second straight season. Bell has a 78-25 Fighting Scots career record, which ties him as the all-time winningest coach at Monmouth. He needs one more win to become the all-time wins leader at Monmouth College.
The Fighting Scots are ranked 8th by both D3football.com and the American Football Coaches Association polls, their highest ranking of all-time.
