We recently had a chance to catch up with a good personal friend and friend in the business of ours, Sigmund Bloom. We discussed the idea behind Draft Guys TV, future plans for the website, his work, and got to know him more away from the job.
Here is what Bloom had to say!
JBS: Thanks for taking the time to chat with us Sigmund. As one of the leaders behind Draft Guys TV and the Draft Guys website we have to ask what gave you the idea of doing the player profiles?
Sigmund: Actually Josh, it was at least in part inspired by the work people like you and John Murphy do. There are a lot of overlooked players from small schools, or players that were otherwise overshadowed by "name" players at big programs, or players that are excelling at lesser known BCS programs that deserve to have their skills and story in the spotlight, too.
JBS: Do you have a favorite player profile you have done over the last two years?
Sigmund: I hate to single out just a few players from the 100 or so we've done, but this year Frantz Joseph stood out for his terrific story (transferring to Fla Atlantic to take care of his mom), his throwback playing style, and his gracious attitude and mature perspective. We're really hoping he can catch on somewhere.
JBS: Could you give us a sneak peak at what our readers can expect in the 2010 Draft version of Draft Guys TV?
Sigmund: Well, JB, the plans have changed for DGTV at this moment because my wife is due with our first child smack in the middle of the usual travel schedule. We'll still be covering the draft at draftguys.com, but with the new arrival I think the massive amount of time it requires to make the show won't be available this spring, so the show is officially on hiatus.
JBS: What is your most memorable moment since starting the website?
Sigmund: Definitely getting to interview C.O. Brocato, the legendary Titans scout. He invented some of the things we take for granted in the scouting community, and he deserves to be in the hall of fame.
JBS: Who is your top rated small school prospect entering the season?
Sigmund: Andre Roberts, the WR out of Citadel. No surprise really. After back to back All American years, I’m not sure what he has left to prove. He should keep the string of good small WR translating to the NFL going.
QUICK HITS
In this section we take the time to get to know our guests away from their job!
JBS: What is your favorite website besides draftguys.com?
Sigmund: footballguys.com :) ok, one that isn't about football - metafilter.com
JBS: What is your favorite movie?
Sigmund: Big Lebowski, but we're painting our child's room with a Team Zissou underwater theme.
JBS: What is your favorite food?
Sigmund: Buffalo Chicken, New Mexican food smothered in Green Chile, Jalapeno & Pepperoni Pizza.
JBS: What are your hobbies?
Sigmund: Travel, Movies, Live Music (especially Phish), jamming with my band "Crack"
JBS: If you had to pick your favorite memory of your life what would it be?
Sigmund: Let's just say it's going to happen sometime around January 25 :)
BIO
Sigmund Bloom was born in the heart of Steeler Nation in western Pennsylvania in 1975. He set out to become a sportscaster with the help of Syracuse University\'s Broadcast Journalism program in 1993. Along the way, he got sidetracked by philosophy, then law, and finally, software development. Bloom is a bar-certified attorney in the state of Texas, and he also wrote web applications for the University of Texas for six years.
He never lost his passion for all things football, and in 2007 decided to devote himself to being a full-time part of the football world, writing for footballguys.com, co-hosting "The Audible", and serving the draft community by joining friends/colleagues Marc Faletti and Cecil Lammey to launch DraftGuys.
We would like to thank Bloom for taking the time to answer some questions for us and encourage everyone to visit www.draftguys.com!
