We continue to crank out our series of interviews with some of the biggest media names among small school media!
JBS: Thanks for taking time to chat with us Jason. As the director of College Fanz Sports Network's College Relations and founder of NAIAFootball.net and the Victory Sports Network our first question is what gave you the idea to start covering NAIA and when?
Jason: I played football at Dana College in Blair, Neb. which participates in the NAIA. After three years, I got injuried and wasn't able to play my senior year. I wanted to work in the media so I did play by play of all of the Dana Football games and helped the Dana SID at the time with preparing for the games. I would get frustrated every week because I could not find any information on the teams we were playing. I said to myself "Someone should start an NAIA football web site . . .six months later, I did it."
JBS: Could you tell our readers how to purchase your 2009 NAIA Football Preview?
Jason: All they need to do is go to our web site and click the link for NAIA Preview (http://www.victorysportsnetwork.com/magazine.php)
JBS: What has been your most memorable moment since covering NAIA?
Jason: The most memorable thing is meeting all the fans in person. It's really a highlight to meet other people as passionate about the NAIA as I am. As for a specific moment, I would have to say the 2007 National Title in Savannah, Tenn. where the field ended out as a complete mud bowl and on the cover of Sports Illustrated. It was the only time in my life I have seen a game played in those conditions.
JBS: Who is the best NAIA player you have ever seen and why?
Jason: Tyler Emmert of Carroll College. He was the smartest and most decieving player ever in the NAIA. You'd look at him and say, "This guy's suppose to be their big threat?" Then he'd go play a game and finish with 300 plus yards, no interceptions and only 2-3 incompletions. He looked like some guy playing NCAA 2009 on a PS3 against the weakest level.
JBS: Can you give our readers a sneak peak at what is to come on College Fanz and NAIAFOOTBALL.net?
Jason: We are expanding and making the web site even more centered on the passionate fans of NAIA football. We have added blogs, groups, the ability for the user to upload videos and photos along with a whole lot more. Additionally we will be broadcasting a live football game every week from all across the country in our "NAIA Game of the Week" segment. Live video, pregame shows and a whole lot more from all over the country!
